Anti-acne
creams are not miracle cure for pimples
BERLIN
- Consumers who buy anti-acne products should not expect
miracles, a test conducted by a Berlin product evaluation
organization showed.
Only
nine of 12 creams tested achieved a ‘satisfactory’ mark and
three were judged ‘good’, the organization said in the April
edition of its magazine.
The
anti-acne creams tested included gels, sticks and products,
which covered the acne like a small bandage.
The
effectiveness of the products in the test, however, can vary
from person to person, the test showed, as acne is unpredictable
and affects people in different ways.
Similarly,
it was difficult to compare the products based on price because
the testers used the products differently and the manner of use
depended on the number of pimples.
But
the main prerequisite to effectiveness no matter the product is
used: Pimples must be left to heal themselves.
Consumers
should consult a dermatologist before spending a lot of time
doctoring themselves, the product test organization recommended.
Otherwise
they could miss a chance of finding a targeted treatment. A
dermatologist could prescribe medicine for stubborn acne such as
an antibiotic to take orally or as a cream.
