Women want more compliments, small gifts from men

MUNICH/HAMBURG -  Most women like to hear compliments from a man and find that their partner or husbands could say something nice more often, according to a poll conducted for the German women’s magazine Elle.

Every second woman admits to fishing for compliments, but some 81 per cent of women interviewed conceded they were disappointed by the mostly “half-hearted reaction”.

A man should always make a positive remark about a woman’s appearance when seeing her again after a long time. Even more important were compliments during the get-to-know phase, the magazine finds.

A lack of charm on the man’s part inevitably causes the first date to flop, Elle says.

The poll was conducted by the Ipsos Institute among 500 women from the age of 14.

Small gifts good for love life

Men could buy their wives flowers more often, bring her breakfast in bed and show her that he loves her in many other small affectionate ways, according to another poll conducted by the German women’s magazine Freundin.

About 92 per cent of women interviewed said such small gifts were the nicest way a man could show his love.

Four out of five women felt a proper apology after a row is more important than an expensive gift.

Diamonds, fur coats and other expensive gifts make women suspicious and 65 per cent believed the man was giving her the such a present because he had a guilty conscience.

The poll was conducted by the Hamburg-based Gewis Institute which interviewed 1,058 women aged between 20 and 60 years.
