Do you think wearing hijab is old-fashioned?

No, it should not be counted has fashion. It is related to Islam and Islamic values and no one is wearing that for fashion.

Salma Alili, Dubai

Wearing a hijab is not for fashion but is a requirement of Islam so that women are protected and honoured when they step out of their homes...and I can speak from personal experience that even though I live in USA, Alhamdulillah I have always been honored and respected for covering my face as well as my body and not once have been made fun of... instead American people have come up to me and really appreciated the fact that I am covered. May Allah show us all the right path and the ability to follow it.

Umme Haris, Florida, USA

Absolutely not! On the contrary, our eastern fashion industry is so much advanced today, that even if today's young girls think and believe in that it's old-fashioned, I am sure they can find 100s of choices & varieties in shellas (veils), whether it be plain or with embroidery...simple or heavy....which can be wore during all occasions.

Mixing up the culture a bit with the fashion is acceptable rather than avoiding it which can lead us to a disagreement to what our religion tells us to do. At last but not least, I'd like to put a remark, Ramadan is not the only month where one should be alert, it's the whole life that counts till the death....and God bless us all.

Deepti, Dubai

No...this brings out the beauty in a women. It really highlights the face and makes a women all the more attractive.

Aashiq, Dubai

Well, first question that comes to my mind is that is it really counted in a fashion category. It is a must for women and it’s an order of Allah which is to be obeyed not to make us feel bad but to give us a sense of protection.

Ateeba, Abu Dhabi

No, personally speaking, hidden women looks prettier. When Islam says something it is for a reason. Yes, there are different type of hijabs. I am sure you don’t mean shuttle cock kind of hijab. Women should be moderately covered to leave female attraction in her. When women is exposed then she looses her attraction.

Secondly, women means hidden treasure, where you find peace, tranquility, love, emotions, delicate and moreover when women is educated then she is the best creation of GOD. Think about it. A flower with great smell.

Syed-Dain, Long Island, New York

In my opinion people who thinks that Hijab is old-fashioned are mentally sick. Hijab is not a fashion. It’s really a beauty of women.

I think women who are without hijab have lost their beauty and looks ugly. I think modern people are those people who have modern mind. Don’t think that by wearing short dresses we have become modern.

Actually we should have modern thinking that reflects good moral values.

Shafqat Fatima, Dubai

Yes...it is high time people should stop wearing.

Pankaj Chandra, Sharjah

It's not a fashion. It's faith. So your question is meaningless and utter nonsense.

Maha, Abu Dhabi

Not at all. It is religion. And religion can never become old fashion. Besides it is wrong to mix religion with fashion. If a woman wears a hijab, she is respected.

And that is what we all seek - to be respected. Being fashionable will not get you anything, except being a product for the society; giving them something to admire and talk about.

A woman, UAE

Hijab has nothing to do with Islam. It is just the way some Arab women dress up. Quran does not say to cover the face.

If it was so necessary to cover the face then at the time of Hajj it should have been must for women to wear hijab.

In my humble opinion to cover up modestly is more advisable than covering the face and let alone hair. Some ladies are more worried to cover their hair than covering their body parts. I have seen some Muslim ladies who do cover their hair but show their legs.

Prof Dr Khalid R Sager, Sydney

Wearing the hijab is not old-fashioned. In fact, it’s a must for women. It’s a protection and a shield for women.

Zahida, Dubai

This is just a rubbish question. Wearing hijab is not a fashion. It is in Islam. It has the same importance as what cross has for Christians, turban for Sikh. Hence I request every one not to consider hijab as a fashion.

I also request every country who oppose hijab to respect the religious sentiment of others as they want that their religion should be respected. So please correct it wearing hijab is not a fashion.

Khaliqur Rahman, India

Not at all. It is a custom and customs are never in or out of fashion

Shagufta Usman, Dubai

No, hijab is not meant for fashion.

Amaan, Sharjah

No, not at all. It’s only a mark of respect.

Hathika, Dubai

No, it keeps up the ethnic and pride of the country.

Saniyah Hassan, Sharjah

In fact, now a days wearing hijab has become a fashion as you see markets flooded with variety and designer wear hijabs.

Anees, Dubai

Now a days wearing hijab has become fashionable. I tend to see style in hijabs woman wear and also it serves as an identity of one’s religion. But the purpose of covering ones hair is not served because always you can see a stylish curl of hair or something peeping out of hijab.

So it is not the old fashioned type. Trying to cover religious requirement as well get along with the fashion. Woman are innovators when it comes to style.

Ahsan, Abu Dhabi

How could wearing hijab be old-fashioned? It’s not fashion in the first place!

Fatoom G, Ajman

Asghar from US, Aleen from London, Azima Pathan and Husna from Mumbai and Ali from Canada are also of the opinion that that wearing hijab is not old-fashioned.
